About Me

Nicholas Meier is currently Assistant Professor of education at California State University, Monterey Bay. He previously taught as a part time lecturer at San Jose State University. He received his PhD. (2006) from Stanford University, his Masters in Teacher Leadership (1998) at San Jose State University, and his B.A. in Psychology (1984) and Teaching Credential (1985) from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Nicholas spent 14 years as an elementary teacher working with predominantly minority students in bilingual settings in Hollister, Oakland, Salinas, and San Jose, California. During his classroom tenure he managed to teach all the elementary grades except kindergarten at one time or another. For three of those years he worked as a resource teacher supporting teachers in the development of a district-wide bilingual program. His present research is in the area of teacher collaboration and teacher professional community. Although he grew up in New York City, Nicholas moved to Venice, California in 1979 in order to play freestyle Frisbee. Nicholas and his wife, Elizabeth Good, moved to Santa Cruz County in 1982, where they still reside. When not reading, writing, teaching, and thinking about education, Nicholas also enjoys going on backpacking trips, playing tennis, contra-dancing, listening to folk music, and reading speculative fiction.
